The New York Jets continued reshaping the bottom of their roster Sunday, signing three players and waiving three others with injury designations as the team moves closer to the final 53-man roster deadline.
New York added edge rusher Anthony Dunn, running back Dominic Richardson, and safety Tanner Wall. To make room, the Jets waived/injured wide receiver Caullin Lacy, running back Sam Scott, and edge rusher Nate Voorhis.
The moves come shortly after the Jets' 17-0 preseason win over the Pittsburgh Steelers and give the coaching staff several new players to evaluate during the final stretch of the preseason.
Anthony Dunn Gets a Late Opportunity Off the Edge
Dunn joins the Jets after recently being released by the Kansas City Chiefs. At this stage of the summer, additions like this are often about giving the coaching staff another option at a position where depth and special-teams value can determine who survives final cuts.
The Jets are still sorting through the back end of their defensive roster, and Dunn now has a short window to make an impression. His path to the roster will likely depend on how quickly he can contribute in practice, how he handles special-teams responsibilities, and whether the staff sees enough upside to keep developing him.
Dominic Richardson Adds Another Running Back to the Mix
Richardson may be the most recognizable of the three additions because he was with the Tennessee Titans earlier this month. Tennessee signed him on August 16 before waiving him just a few days later on August 19.
The Jets have spent the preseason evaluating their running back depth, and Richardson gives them another option for the final practices and preseason work. Late-August signings do not necessarily signal a major change near the top of the depth chart, but they can become important when teams are managing injuries, preparing for final cuts, and evaluating potential practice-squad players.
Tanner Wall Joins the Safety Competition
Safety Tanner Wall is the third addition to the Jets roster. Wall went undrafted out of BYU in 2026 and previously spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders. Like Dunn and Richardson, he arrives with only a limited amount of time remaining before the Jets have to make their final roster decisions.
The Jets have spent training camp evaluating depth throughout the secondary, and Wall now enters that competition at a point where every practice rep matters.
Three Jets Waived With Injury Designations
The other side of Sunday's moves involved Lacy, Scott, and Voorhis, all of whom were waived with injury designations.
That distinction matters. A waived/injured designation is different from simply releasing a healthy player. It generally means the team is moving the player off the active roster while the NFL's injury and waiver procedures determine what happens next.
The Timing Is What Makes These Moves Important
None of the six moves should be viewed in isolation as a major change to the Jets' starting lineup. The bigger story is where the team currently sits on the calendar.
The preseason is almost finished, and the Jets are approaching the point when they must trim the roster to 53 players. That makes every transaction increasingly important because the coaching staff is narrowing its evaluations and beginning to decide which players fit into the regular-season roster, which players could return on the practice squad, and which players will be allowed to move on.
Players signed this late face an especially difficult challenge. Dunn, Richardson, and Wall have very little time to learn the system and prove themselves, but late roster additions can occasionally force their way into the conversation with a strong practice or special-teams performance.
What Comes Next for the Jets
The Jets should remain active over the next several days as the roster takes its final shape. Some players currently on the bubble will get one final opportunity to strengthen their case, while others could be moved before the deadline. The Jets will also have the ability to evaluate players released by other teams as roster cuts begin across the NFL.
That makes this part of the preseason especially fluid. Sunday's six moves could be only the beginning of a much busier stretch for New York's front office.
For now, Dunn, Richardson, and Wall have earned an opportunity to make their case. Lacy, Scott, and Voorhis are heading through the injury-waiver process, and the Jets continue moving one step closer to the roster they will carry into the regular season.
